Nanjing University

The Institute for International Students is the official institution responsible for international student enrollment at Nanjing University. It is a national test site for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), the Test of Practical Chinese (C.Test) and the Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language (TCFL) Capability Test.

Nanjing University is one of the top 5 universities in China, and also one of the first to receive foreign students. It has hosted more than 10,000 international students from over 70 countries to date. Its graduates have gone on to become prominent politicians, businessmen and scholars, among others.
The Institute comprises the Department of Chinese Language, the Department of TCFL, the Institute of Chinese-Foreign Culture Comparison Studies, the Postgraduates Center and the Teaching Materials Center for TCFL. It has developed a comprehensive programme on Chinese language and culture, and offers short term language training as well as degree programs (B.A., M.A., Ph.D). Currently, the Institute has 33 full-time faculty, 23 of which are professors or associate professors. There are also over 30 adjunct faculty. Institute teachers are all experienced in teaching Chinese to foreign students.

The Institute serves as a training site for such diverse organizations as the Chinese Department of the U.N., the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE), the Chinese Teaching Association of New York Area and the American National Chinese Flagship Program. It serves foreign governments, business companies, the diplomatic circle, the army, and educational institutions including primary schools, secondary schools and universities. It regularly offers programs in Chinese language and culture and HSK prep–courses; HSK test participants from the university have traditionally received high rankings on the test.
